Data Protection

Effective date: 16 July 2026

This page summarises how Labour Market protects personal information under POPIA and related South African law. Read it together with our Privacy Policy.

1. Our commitment

We process personal information lawfully, reasonably, and securely. We apply data minimisation: we collect what is needed for recruitment, subscription, and platform operations.

2. Information Officer

Our Information Officer oversees POPIA compliance and data subject requests:

3. Security measures

  • Encryption in transit: TLS/SSL for data between your device and our servers.
  • Access control: role-based permissions for admins, employers, sponsors, and candidates.
  • Authentication: password controls and session security.
  • Operational controls: least-privilege access, monitoring, and secure handling of uploaded documents (CVs, IDs, proof of residence).
  • Vendor diligence: operators such as hosting and PayFast are selected with security and confidentiality obligations in mind.

4. Breach notification

If a security compromise is reasonably likely to affect personal information, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected data subjects as required by POPIA, and take steps to contain and remediate the incident.

5. Retention and disposal

Recruitment, billing, and compliance records are kept for defined periods aligned with business and legal needs, then securely deleted or anonymised.

6. PAIA

Requests for access to records under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) may be directed to our Information Officer. Where we publish a PAIA manual, it will be linked from this site. Until then, PAIA requests can be submitted by email to privacy@labourmarket.co.za.

7. Data subject rights

You may request access, correction, deletion (where lawful), objection, and related rights as set out in our Privacy Policy. We aim to respond within reasonable timeframes required by law.

8. Regulator
